_launch-of-glen-rosa-at-ferguson-marine.webp "Launch of Glen Rosa at Ferguson Marine<br/><br/>Glen Rosa launch: What future for Ferguson Marine as hugely-delayed ferry leaves slipway?<br/><br/>It had taken shape at Ferguson Marine over more than eight years, but then, in a matter of seconds on Tuesday, was gone – leaving behind questions about the shipyard’s future (and recent turbulent past) as big as the huge slipway it had just vacated.<br/><br/>Glen Rosa’s belated launch could turn out to be the turning point for the embattled Port Glasgow yard. But we don’t know yet whether it’s towards the brighter future wellbeing economy Mairi McAllan talked up as the ship was sent on its way, or whether the yard’s hopes have effectively sailed away with the vessel.<br/><br/>Ms McAllan, surrounded by female apprentices as she spoke, pointed to them being the future of Scottish shipbuilding, which she said meant it was “in safe hands”.<br/><br/>The Cabinet secretary said later that her officials had just taken receipt of a bid for new investment from the yard to make it more competitive – which could be vital if Ferguson Marine is to secure a crucial contract to build seven smaller CalMac ferries similar to those it successfully completed in the not-so-distant past.<br/><br/>I also understand it will have to bid for the work rather than receive a direct award, to comply with international competition rules. However, Ms McAllan made no reference to Glen Rosa – and sister vessel Glen Sannox before it – being hugely behind schedule and multiple times over budget.<br/><br/>There was also nothing about the shock sacking of Ferguson Marine chief executive David Tydeman two weeks ago over “performance” issues, which senior industry officials told me was “unbelievable”. One said: “That guy is the best you have seen by a country mile.”<br/><br/>Glen Sannox left the yard for the last time last week for further sea trials, with the remaining work, including pipework for its liquefied natural gas fuel system, being completed at a dock in Greenock prior to its scheduled completion in May or June, with an update on this due next week.<br/><br/>If there are no further delays, the ferry is expected to start carrying passengers on the main Arran route to Brodick around August following CalMac’s own trials.<br/><br/>Glen Rosa is due to be finished in September next year. But as the crowd of hundreds – families of workers, locals and curious others – watched it slide away into the Clyde, more than just a landmark for drivers on the adjacent A8 has disappeared. The gap now spells “what next?”<br/><br/>Ferguson Marine’s interim chief executive John Petticrew, albeit a born and bred Inverclyde shipbuilder, and yard board member, is very much a caretaker manager, who has effectively been parachuted in for six months from Canada, where he now lives, to “put my best efforts into getting the vessels out of here as quickly as possible”.<br/><br/>Will he do things differently from his predecessor? “It’s a matter")

_pricing-and-options-new-subaru-forester-suv-2025.webp "2025 Subaru Forester Gets Big Price Hikes Across The Board, Starts At $29,695<br/><br/>Subaru has announced the 2025 Forester will arrive at U.S. dealerships this spring and start at $29,695 before fees.<br/><br/>Five trim levels will be available and the range-topping Touring will set you back $39,995.<br/><br/>All Foresters have all-wheel drive, a continuously variable transmission, and a 2.5-liter engine with 180 hp.<br/><br/>The 2025 Subaru Forester is granola personified and you can pick one up this spring. However, it’ll be significantly more expensive that the model it replaces, with pricing now starting at $29,695, excluding a $1,395 delivery and destination fee. This translates to a $2,600 increase, or nearly 10% more for the base version compared to the outgoing 2024 model year. Meanwhile, the rest of the lineup sees price hikes ranging from $1,700 to $2,630, equating to a 5.6% to 8.3% increase.<br/><br/>At the base of the range you’ll find LED headlights, roof rails, and 17-inch alloy wheels. Inside, there are analog gauges and a compact 4.2-inch multi-information display. Additionally, the Forester gets dual 7-inch displays and a four-speaker audio system.<br/><br/>Highlights are few and far between, but the base model has power windows and locks as well as a dual-zone automatic climate control system. Buyers will also find cloth seats with blue contrast stitching as well as a hexagonal pattern. The latter is echoed on the simulated leather dash.<br/><br/><br/>Despite being relatively basic on comfort features, the entry-level Forester comes with adaptive cruise control, a lane centering system, and pre-collision braking. They’re joined by lane departure warning / prevention, a rearview camera, high beam assist, and a rear seat reminder.<br/><br/>The Forester Premium begins at $31,995 and is well-worth the price of admission over the base trim as it adds some relatively basic features such as rear privacy glass, illuminated vanity mirrors, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.<br/><br/>That’s just the tip of the iceberg as the model has LED fog lights, a panoramic moonroof, heated exterior mirrors, and a windshield wiper deicer. Bigger changes occur inside as the model has a 10-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, and a wireless smartphone charger. They’re joined by an 11.6-inch infotainment system, a six-speaker audio system, a fancier instrument cluster, upgraded upholstery, and a keyless access system with a push-button ignition.<br/><br/>The optimistically named Forester Sport begins at $34,495 and feels like it’s from the Bronze Age in more ways than one. Jokes aside, the model has bronze exterior accents as well as 19-inch alloy wheels with a bronze finish.
